Even though their name suggests it, hispid hares are actually rabbits. They are able to successfully navigate their habitats without much difficulty. Although the tall grass does pose a problem for predator detection, they have an acute sense of hearing that aids them in looking out for predators. Hispids, as mentioned in the article, are slower moving. This is due to shorter legs and smaller feet, as compared with hares. As a result of shorter legs and smaller feet, these critters can only reach top speeds of up to 20 - 25 mph, as opposed to hares that can obtain speeds of up to 50 mph.]]></description>
